About
Onions101 is a directory of .onion sites, services reachable only through the Tor network. Addresses on Tor are long, change often and are easy to imitate. Onions101 checks every address it lists, keeps the different addresses of one site together and sorts the sites by category, and the people who use it help keep it honest.
How it works
Browse by category, or search for what you need. The sites that work and that people trust come first, so the best answer is usually at the top.
Every listing shows whether the site is reachable right now and how it has done over the last month. Many services publish several addresses, and Onions101 lists them together as mirrors of one site, so when one address goes dark the others are a click away. A site that stays offline for weeks moves to the dead sites page, and it comes back as soon as it answers again.
Anyone can suggest a new site or a correction to an existing one. The people who run a listed site can prove it is theirs and look after its listing in Search Console, which also shows them the searches that led visitors to it. Clones, coin-stealing schemes and anything built to harm its visitors are removed as soon as they are found.
With or without JavaScript
Tor Browser’s safest setting turns scripts off, and many people keep it that way for good reason: JavaScript is where most browser exploits start. You never have to switch it on to use Onions101. Browsing, searching, filtering, voting, submitting, logging in and bookmarking work the same with scripts off as with them on, with the same pages and the same results.
With scripts on, the pages are a little more convenient: search results update as you type, and a vote or a bookmark registers on the spot instead of reloading the page.
Stay safe
Onions101 checks whether a site is online. It does not check what the site does.
The Tor network is full of look-alikes: services change hands, phishing copies borrow a well-known name, and an address that worked last month may lead somewhere else today. Knowing that a site answers does not tell an honest service from a fraudulent one, and neither does a description written by whoever submitted it. Votes help, since a site that people keep marking down sinks, and clones are removed when they are found. None of this is a guarantee.
So treat every listing as a starting point. Confirm an address through a channel the service itself controls, such as a signed message or its own list of mirrors, before trusting it with anything that matters. Never send money or credentials to a site just because it is listed here. If something looks wrong, vote it down or report it; if a service did what it promised, vote it up. Your votes keep the directory useful for the next person.
Disclaimer
Onions101 is an index. It does not host, operate or control any of the sites it lists, and it has no say in what they publish or how they treat their visitors. The listings are contributed by the community and checked for availability only.
That is why Onions101 cannot endorse a listed service or vouch for its content, safety or legality: all an index can see is that an address answers. You visit every site at your own risk, and you are responsible for following the laws that apply where you are.
